Finding Community in Creative Witness
Recently, student musicians connected to Motor City Campus Ministry (our United Methodist Wesley Foundation in Metro Detroit) headed to Howell First UMC to share some new music.
The event was a good old-fashioned church dinner with a concert following. What the diners didn’t know was that these college student singers and players hadn’t ever performed together before.
In an age where recordings, sheet music, and more can easily be shared online Motor City has been able to connect students from across various campuses even if they can’t all be in the same room. It means that Laila, an aspiring songwriter from Wayne State University, can team up Nick and Elliot, music performance students at Schoolcraft College, and the show can go on!
Motor City students are finding community in their pursuit of creative witness. They hope the whole church learn to use the tools we have today to build relationships that make known God’s blessings for the world.
